Walking Your Path is an invitation to step into a supportive, creative space guided by Neil Baker, our managing director. Designed for small groups of just four people, this ten-week experience offers encouragement and companionship as you explore the challenges and joys of living and working more creatively.
The focus is deliberately broad: whether you’re just beginning to experiment with poetry, deep into a writing project, or seeking new ways to engage with the world more creatively, this group provides a nurturing environment for your journey.
The aim of the group is not to teach you how to do any of these things. Rather, it’s based on the belief that we all need to find our own path forward, yet the journey is richer, more rewarding, and often easier when travelled in the company of others, as we can all learn from each other.
To give the group a productive structure, Neil will guide a process centred on supportive, non-judgemental listening, and action with reflection. A key difference with this approach is that everyone in the group is there to support each other, but not to give advice or feedback. This kind of attentive, judgement-free connection is a rare and valuable gift – one that most of us don’t experience in our daily lives.
The group will meet six times for two hours every fortnight, starting in January. We will agree on suitable times between us once we have a group of four ready to start.
Inspiration
The inspiration for the name Walking Your Path comes from a poem by Antonio Machado. The original, in Spanish, starts with the word Caminante. There are many different translations of the poem into English. Caminante becomes walker, wanderer and, in the version below, by Mary Berg and Dennis Maloney, it is rendered as traveller.
Traveller, your footprints
are the only road, nothing else.
Traveller, there is no road;
you make your own path as you walk.
As you walk, you make your own road,
and when you look back
you see the path
you will never travel again.
Traveller, there is no road;
only a ship's wake on the sea.
