Perceive

We have another wordy offering for you. This time, picking out the word perceive.

Perceive (verb)

An awareness

A knowing

An understanding

What comes to mind?

Within all acts of creative expression is a seed of perception – how we perceive the world around us. What we sense from our surroundings creates an awareness which is instantly germinated by what we already know and understand. We make interpretations through writing, or other forms of creative expression, to grasp a deeper understanding or as a way of showing or telling others about how we perceive the world.

Where might this word take you?

Try this:

Sit quietly for a few minutes and tune in to your surroundings. What do you become aware of? List the things that you can see, hear, smell or touch from where you are sitting. Pick one thing from the list and write about it.

In this moment, how did you become aware of it? What do you already know about it? Have you come to understand anything new about it now, as you perceive it in its current surroundings?

We’d love to see what you come up with, if you’d like to share.
