Dark Angels Note 170
Dearest Friends
Welcome back to our Friday Note – our weekly collection of writerly thoughts.
Observing
Today in 1966 American film producer Walt Disney died (5 December 1901 – 15 December 1966).
Probably the best-known cartoonist in the world, his company and legacy are synonymous with animation and entertainment.
The Disney company, first known as The Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, began in October 1923 when Walt signed a contract with M. J. Winkler to produce the Alice Comedies. That series combined cartoon animation and live characters. It wasn’t until 1927 that Disney produced its first cartoon, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
Fast forward to present day, the company has six Disney Resorts worldwide and dominates the film production industry while continuing to enchant audiences with its celebrated style of magical entertainment.
Reading
Starting out as a cartoon animation studio, diversifying with franchising, and then a stealth move into streaming, the House of Mouse’s story has evolved over 100 years.

Writing
Disney animators famously reused animations. A technique called rotoscoping allowed them to recycle clips into new films to save time and money.
Try this: Go back to your notebook to find some previously written words that grab you. Can you recycle or reuse them, so they get another outing? How can you quickly dress them up into something new?
We’d love to see what you come up with if you’d like to share.
Sharing
This week’s Sharing, in response to the prompt in last week’s Note, is from John Simmons in memory of John Lennon.
Revolving
Woke up, got out of bed
couldn’t get that song out of my head
so just gave in, played the song again
a day in the life I’ll never regain
recording days when music went round
a whirlpool of feeling not a stream of sound.
