Dark Angels Writing Retreat | Whidbey Island, WA | June 16-21, 2023
Join us for a 5-day writing retreat on Whidbey Island, in the US Pacific Northwest. We’ll explore writing, creativity and inspiration through guided writing, personal projects and time in nature.“As you move toward a dream, the dream moves toward you.”
~ Julia Cameron
What’s going on?
Dark Angels America, last seen on the US West Coast in 2019, returns. In June of 2023, come spread your wings at the Aldermarsh Retreat Center on the southern tip of Whidbey Island, just north of Seattle in Puget Sound. Whidbey Island is a creative beehive; home to potters, musicians, painters, sculptors, gardeners, photographers, writers, bakers, poets, winemakers, and naturalists.

What will we be doing?
We’ll do lots of writing and sharing – some guided, some in your own time. There will be scope to discuss and work on personal projects if you wish to bring one. And we’ll be spending time in, and seeking inspiration from, nature. We’ll take forest trails and seaside hikes. You can participate as much or as little as you like.
Over five days we’ll explore writing, creativity and inspiration. How can we be more creative? How do we find our true writers’ voices? How does the writing process enrich our lives? If you haven’t been with us before, no need to worry. All are welcome. Dark Angels experiences are always supportive, enlivening, big-hearted, surprising and challenging. Expect Dark Angels on Whidbey Island to be all that and more.
What does it cost and what do I get?
Aldermarsh offers a mix of private and shared sleeping quarters. However, we are setting the program for eight people. (Not including Jamie and Richard.) This means everyone gets their own private room. So if you’d like to come, might be best to act fast. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, except one night when we all go out to dinner. Wine is extra. The Aldermarsh Retreat Center is a little bit of heaven, ideal to write, think, dream, walk, talk, and fall in love with the natural world all over again.
Cost: £1975 | (Room & all meals except one.)
Getting to Aldermarsh
Whidbey is about 40 miles from the Seattle Airport. Easily accessible by ferry and by car. The ferry crossing takes approx. 20 min and runs every half hour. There are various options for fly-drive, cab or public transport from a number of local/regional airports to the ferry that takes you to Whidbey. Full details when you book.
“We should write because writing brings clarity and passion to the act of living. Writing is sensual, experiential, grounding. We should write because writing is good for the soul. We should write because writing yields us a body of work, a felt path through the world we live in.”
~ Julia Cameron
